The EcoTank ET-8550 is the bigger brother of the ET-8500. Inside sits the same print head and the same six tanks, but the paper path is wider: this machine prints up to A3+, which is 329 by 483 millimetres. For the ink that makes no difference at all. The same Epson 114 bottles fit, with the same part numbers.
What does differ is how fast you get through a bottle. An A3 sheet is twice the size of A4, so a full-size photographic print costs roughly twice the ink. Anyone who bought this printer for A3 photo work buys ink by the set rather than by the bottle, which is exactly what the six-colour set is for.
The split between the two blacks applies here too: pigment black (BK) for text on plain paper, photo black (PBK) for photo paper. At large sizes the difference is more obvious, because a black area on A3 is simply bigger to look at.
If a tank runs dry during an A3 print, the printer stops. It is therefore wiser to top the tanks up before they are completely empty than to lose half a print.

Frequently asked questions
- Which Epson ink does your EcoTank need?
Count the tanks in your EcoTank. Six tanks is the 114 series, four tanks is 104 or 102. Most wrong orders come down to that one difference.
